Canto di Natale (by Maggie Corcoran)

(December 24th 07.30)
Oh, jingles hell, jingles hell
Jingles all the way
Oh, what fun it is to be
A freelancer today!
Oh, Jingles hell, jingles hell
Jingles all the way
Oh, what fun it is to work
Without a hope of pay.

Dashing through the snow
On a December day
Off to work I go
Sobbing all the way.
Client’s on the phone
He says the deadline’s tight
Got no time to cry or moan
Will I get it right?
Oh, jingles hell, jingles hell….

The client wants a visual
“Please do your very best!
Something quite unusual
We want a Eurobest!”
My cell phone starts to ring
Misfortune seems my lot
Client’s changed his mind again!
He wants a 30 second spot!
Oh, jingles hell, jingles hell…..
We break our balls and work nonstop
We write the storyboard
Client says “Use Photoshop
To create the Xmas mode!”
The client says “Rejoice!
We’ll win the prize this year”
But when I mention invoice
He doesn’t seem to hear!
(December 24th 23.30)
The client writes his letter
“Well, Dear Santa, Hello
I would like an iPad and
Something nice, you know”.
Santa (being freelance)
Laughs out loud and says
“Certainly Sir, up your arse
You’ll get it in 90 days”.

Oh, jingles hell, jingles hell
Jingles all the way
Oh, what fun it is to be
A freelanceeeeeeer toooooooodaaaaaaaaaaaaay!
To all the wonderful amazing clients in the world ☺….Merry Christmas!
